Kyocera opens its new production site in Waiblingen

KYOCERA Fineceramics Medical GmbH officially inaugurated its new production facility and office building in Waiblingen, Germany, on October 1st, 2025, focusing on the production of BIOCERAM AZUL® for orthopedic implants.

Kyoto/Esslingen − After only one year of construction, KYOCERA Fineceramics Medical GmbH celebrated the opening of its new production site and office building in Waiblingen, near Stuttgart, Germany, on October 1st, 2025. Besides representatives from the Kyocera Group, including KYOCERA Corporation, KYOCERA Medical Corporation, KYOCERA Europe GmbH, KYOCERA Fineceramics Europe GmbH, and KYOCERA Fineceramics Medical GmbH, the project owners Mr. Ebner and Mrs. Ebner-Albert also attended the opening ceremony on site.

Presence in the European medical sector

At its new production site in Waiblingen, KYOCERA Fineceramics Medical GmbH will focus on manufacturing BIOCERAM AZUL® high-performance ceramic ball heads for use in hip implants and other orthopedic applications.

With a fully automated and intelligently designed production environment, the facility will incorporate optimized material flows, autonomous mobile robots, and advanced intralogistics solutions. Furthermore, the building has also been designed to meet or even exceed the latest strict regulations regarding carbon neutral production, ESG standardisation, DGNB and/or LEED certification. As Kyocera prepares to ramp up its operations in Waiblingen, numerous employees have already been hired and trained across areas such as manufacturing, quality assurance, documentation, administration, and engineering.

The project developers and owners, Joachim Heinz Ebner and Iris Ebner-Albert, are also proud of the project: “We are delighted that this construction project will form the basis for an innovative and sustainable production environment. The Managing Directors Dr Fabian Preuss and Uwe Kemmer from KYOCERA Fineceramics Medical GmbH conclude: “With the opening of this new site, KYOCERA Fineceramics Medical GmbH is taking a significant step forward in advancing the future of medical ceramics. Only one year of construction

On October 4, 2024, the company held the groundbreaking ceremony. In August 2025, the first machines were installed in the production hall followed by the office building that was completed by the end of September. Less than one year after the groundbreaking ceremony, the new production site now was inaugurated on October 1, 2025. The production start is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
